15 Apps to Relax and Calm Stressed-Out #Eventprofs

It’s well-known that unchecked stress can lead to anxiety, health problems and more.

But managing stress is easier said than done. For busy, always-on #eventprofs, finding time to decompress and de-stress is a battle – amplified even more with the constant reminder our profession consistently ranks as one of the most stressful.

The good news is that there are many apps designed to clear your mind. Of course, eventprofs often have a love-hate relationship with their mobile devices since they are often the cause of our stress. But since our trusty phone is never too far from reach, it makes sense to tap these apps to de-stress since they’re literally at our fingertips.

We’re highlighting fifteen of our favorite apps to relax and calm stressed-out nerves.

Acupressure: Heal Yourself

Most turn to an in-person therapist for applying pressure point massage to relieve tension and pain. But now you can do it yourself at any time with this app.

The app’s illustrated guides help you locate specific pressure points to relieve symptoms of anxiety, such as muscle tension and headache. Just search for your symptoms and the app guides you where to use your fingertips to apply pressure to achieve relief.

According to the creators, the goal of Brain.fm is to “unlock music’s potential to influence cognitive states.”

Choose a goal — like productivity, relaxation or better sleep — and the app’s algorithm generates “functional music” to help you achieve it within 15 minutes.

Designed by the National Center for Telehealth & Technology, this app helps users learn how to use breathing techniques for stress control.

With stunning backgrounds to stare at and a range of meditations, Calm lives up to its name. Calm also features nature sounds, exclusive music tracks and sleep stories to lull you into a relaxed sleep.

And another #eventprofs-friendly benefit? Calm has partnered with XpressSpa at all major U.S. airports. Calm users who stop by receive exclusive offers and gifts.

The adult coloring craze goes digital with this app. Choose from a vast library of images or mandalas, or upload your own and start coloring to escape from the hustle and bustle.

When you need a creativity boost or want to feel soothed, does the background sounds of your local coffee shop provide the white noise you need?

If so, it’s time to download Coffitivity, which helps you zone out by mimicking the ambient sounds of a café.

Using positive psychology, mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy designed by leading scientists and experts, Happify’s proven techniques help you take control of your feelings and thoughts.

Is meditation not your thing? In this cutely designed app, listen to guided meditations and mindfulness techniques to bring calm, wellness, and balance in just a few minutes.

Headspace offers hundreds of meditations on subjects like focus, exercise, and sleep – including short two to three-minute “mini-meditations” when you need a quick reset.

Pocket Yoga

Learn the poses and practice yoga anywhere at any time. Look up single poses or put together entire routines from a range of yoga styles and all levels of difficulty.

Stop, Breathe & Think

Just like the name, eventprofs can use this app to find peace in five minutes by stopping, breathing and thinking.

What makes Stop, Breathe & Think different than other meditation apps is the inclusion of a short survey to assess current mood. After taking the survey, the app leads you through guided meditations based on those results.

Created by game designer and self-help author Jane McGonigal, SuperBetter — based on her book of the same name — helps frame life’s challenges as part of a tough but rewarding game, with players moving through “quests” toward larger goals.

The app is designed to build resilience, which helps users stay strong, motivated and optimistic even during difficult challenges.

Super Slime Simulator

If you’re a fan of the slime craze, here’s how you can create realistic slime (including the satisfying squelching slime sounds) without the mess.

Time Out

Being stuck at your laptop all day is one sure way to send stress levels surging. Time Out reminds you to take both regular and micro-breaks away from your computer. (BTW, scrolling Instagram doesn’t count.)

Zen Koi

While waiting in line for your caffeine fix, play this fun game of growing, breeding and collecting Japanese carp, then trading and swapping the colorful and soothing fish with friends and family to build a beautiful virtual collection of Koi.

If any of these apps don’t do the trick or aren’t your speed, podcasts are a great alternative. While one of our team members swears by true crime podcasts, many find starting the day with an inspirational talk or drifting off to sleep with a few laughs as the best way to relax and de-stress.
